The Cookie Law

The basis of this message are the Electronic Communications Act (ZEKom-1), the Personal Data Protection Act (ZVOP-2) and the European Regulation on Personal Data Protection (GDPR).

What are cookies?

Cookies are little data files that store the settings of peoples’ web browsers. A kind of short term memory for the web, they are stored in the user device that accessed them and allow users to set preferences for the display of a page, and for these to be remembered the next time they return to it. Cookies allow websites to identify if the user has already visited the website, and with advanced applications they can be used to adjust individual settings accordingly. Their storage is under the full control of the browser used by the user – the user can restrict or disable the storage of cookies if desired.

Why are cookies needed?

Cookies are fundamental to providing user-friendly online services. They are used to store information about the status of an individual website (details concerning customizations of an individual website), and help in the implementation of online services.
